University Studies, an
academic unit of the University College, is a program created to increase
students' opportunities for academic success. Included in University Studies
are two Core Curriculum Courses (Block IX)-University 1301: Seminar in Critical
Inquiry and University 2350: Interdisciplinary Technology and Society. University
Studies also coordinates learning communities.
University 1301 is designed to
engage students intellectually in an academic topic of their choosing. This
course also helps students make a successful transition to the University
by providing instruction in academic success skills and by introducing them
to campus resources and activities. Enrollment in University 1301 is restricted
to students with fewer than thirty hours of earned credit the semester for
which they are taking the course.<>

University 2350 is designed to engage students in a critical examination of technology and its effects. Students are introduced to ways of assessing technology and will examine social, cultural, and environmental consequences of technology. The prerequisite for enrolling in University 2350 is English 1312 or ESOL 1312.
Learning Communities are an innovative approach to learning that links two or more courses together. Learning communities provide greater intellectual stimulation to both students and faculty by looking at connections between different subject matter, perspectives, and ideas.
